Building Department

The Building Inspection Division is responsible for administering and enforcing the building regulations (codes) and local amendments that have been adopted by the Town Council. Building regulations cover all aspects of construction such as structural stability, weatherproofing, energy conservation, ventilation, heating, cooling, fire protection and emergency egress, occupancy safety and use, and include the electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems. They also ensure that adequate access and facilities are provided for people with disabilities.

Building regulations promote standards, sustainability and social inclusion and are aimed at ensuring the health and safety of people in and around buildings. Furthermore, compliance with building codes contributes to the durability of the built environment, helps maintain a higher quality of life and guest experience, and helps maintain property values.

Good building codes are of little value if they are not enforced. Permits and inspections are not required to annoy builders and property owners, or delay projects. They are a means to achieving a healthy, safe, energy efficient and durable built environment, and they help to maintain a level playing field for businesses in the industry. The Town of Breckenridge and the staff of the Building Inspection Division looks forward to partnering with you on your first or next project.
