Special Event and Photo Shoot Permitting

The Town of Breckenridge special events and photo/video/film shoot permitting is administered by the Events and Communications Division of the Town of Breckenridge located at the Riverwalk Center, 150 West Adams Avenue, Breckenridge, CO 80424.

Special Events Permit

Here are some quick facts about the special events permitting process:

The Town of Breckenridge requires a special event permit for any outdoor special event with an expected attendance of 50 or more people.  A special event is defined as a planned occurrence which includes an expected gathering of 50 or more people: (i) the primary purpose of which is entertainment; and (ii) to which the public or a substantial portion thereof is invited to attend, either by express invitation or by implication.

A Special Event Permit is required whether the event is on private or public property within the Town of Breckenridge limits.

An application for a special event permit shall be filed with the Events Manager not less than thirty days (30) nor more than three hundred sixty five (365) days before the special event is proposed to begin.  An application may be submitted less than 30 days prior to the event, but a late application will be subject to an increased permitting fee and there may be additional requirements due to the lateness of the permit.

A permit issued under the Special Events Ordinance is not a special events liquor license.  A special events liquor license must be applied for through the Town Clerks office.  Please click here for more information about how to apply for a special event liquor license.  Please note that you must apply for a special event liquor license at least 30 days prior to the proposed begin of the event.

The Events Manager shall approve, deny or conditionally approve an application within thirty days of the receipt of the completed application unless, by written notice to the applicant, the decision period is extended for an additional ten days; provided, however, that in any event the Events Manager shall render a decision on an application not less than forty eight hours prior to the scheduled commencement of the special event.

A special events permit application is reviewed by the Community Development Department, the Town Clerk, the Town Police Department, the Town Public Works Department, the Red White and Blue Fire Protection District, the Town Events and Communications Division and any other person or agency that the Events and Facilities Manager determines should investigate and comment on the application.

The Town strives to maintain a "one stop" process for event producers.  The Events and Communications Division will communicate with all other Town departments in an effort to assist the event producer and maintain efficiencies in the permitting process.  Therefore, event producers do NOT need to contact Town departments independently.

An applicant may be required to pay a fee if utilizing Town of Breckenridge property and/or resources.
