Most building work in Breckenridge requires a development permit prior to applying for a building permit. Please see our New Construction Packet for information on the planning process.

The building division issues several different types of permits, depending on the requirements of the project.  In general, if you are making changes, you will need a permit.  If you are a homeowner doing your own work, you may pull building permits and some mechanical permits.  If you are working on behalf of a homeowner, you must first have a current Town of Breckenridge Business License, which you can get through the Town Clerk's office.  Only Colorado State licensed Electricians and Plumbers may pull electrical permits or plumbing permits respectively. 

For the building, mechanical, and plumbing fee schedule please see our  Amendment Package for Building Fees.  Please call the Building Department at (970) 453-3180 for the State Electrical Fee Schedule to calculate your electrical permit fees. 

For any building work that effects the exterior appearance of the building, (i.e.: windows, doors,  roofs, additons, etc.), please complete a Class D Minor Permit Application with the Building Permit Application submittal packet.

For any residential or commercial remodeling projects requiring asbestos abatement, please review the following Asbestos Inspection and Abatement Information Packet  Submit the required asbestos reports with the Building Permit Application submittal packet.
