SUMMIT COUNTY – The Town of Breckenridge and the Summit Combined Housing Authority (SCHA) announced two upcoming public sessions to introduce local residents to the homebuying process for workforce housing. Both sessions are free to the public and will be held at the Colorado Mountain College Breckenridge campus auditorium (107 Denison Placer Road, Breckenridge, CO 80424). The first session on Monday, October 27 from 6:00-7:30pm will be held in Spanish, and the second session on Tuesday, November 4 from 6:00-7:30pm will be held in English. Food and drinks will be provided for participants for both sessions.

“We consistently hear from the community that purchasing a home in Summit County is next to impossible,” said Town of Breckenridge Housing Director Laurie Best. “While this market can be challenging, we have programs, tools and resources in place to help people become homeowners,” she continued.

The informal, interactive sessions include a presentation covering workforce housing options in the county, types of loans and their requirements, the role of realtors, and how to financially prepare to buy a home.

“Locals see the prices of real estate and it’s understandable to feel powerless,” said SCHA Director Corrie Burr. “To buy in this market takes some extra planning – sometimes even years.” she continued, “These sessions are designed to give our community members a place to start.”

Along with the presentation, participants will receive planning information and handouts, housing staff and guest speakers available for specific questions, and the opportunity to schedule one-on-one follow-up appointments with SCHA staff. Documents and information on Pathway to Homeownership are available at TownofBreckenridge.com/pathway.

The Town of Breckenridge Housing Department is tasked with the acquisition, preservation and administration of workforce housing in the Upper Blue Basin. Programs and resources are available at TownofBreckHousing.com.

The Summit Combined Housing Authority was formed in 2006 as a multijurisdictional housing authority, formed by an intergovernmental agreement between its member jurisdictions the Towns of Breckenridge, Dillon, Frisco, Keystone, Montezuma and Silverthorne, and Summit County. It serves to enhance Summit County by helping those who define our community attain a safe, long-term housing solution and build a community in which to thrive. SCHA information and resources are available at SummitHousing.us.
