BRECKENRIDGE, CO — The Town has implemented mandatory Stage 2 water restrictions for all Breckenridge water customers. The Blue River basin has been experiencing very dry conditions throughout April. The U.S. Drought Monitor now lists Summit County in “D4 – Exceptional Drought”, the most severe drought category. Snowpack at the Hoosier Pass SNOTEL site was measured at only 25% of normal on April 27. Because of this ongoing drought, streamflow in the Blue River is expected to remain unusually low throughout the spring and summer.
The Town of Breckenridge relies on the Blue River as its main water supply. Lower river flows mean less water is available for our municipal system. In response, the Town has implemented mandatory Stage 2 water restrictions for all Breckenridge water customers.
Under Stage 2 restrictions:
These restrictions are designed to ensure we can continue meeting essential indoor water needs and protect our limited water storage in the Goose Pasture Tarn Reservoir. The Town will review the restrictions every 30 days and provide updates on the Town’s website under Public Works – Water.
We encourage all Breckenridge water customers to look for ways to reduce their water use and to take advantage of the Town’s updated water meter technology, which provides helpful insights into household water consumption. To learn more, visit Breckenridge.watersmart.com.
