Beginning Memorial Day Weekend, six Breckenridge cafés will offer something new alongside your morning order: the Colorado Cup, a borrow-and-return drinkware program from Colorado nonprofit, Retrocycle.
People can order their drink in a Colorado Cup, leave a $2.50 deposit, and return it to any participating café when finished. That deposit comes back as a discount on a purchase. The cup gets washed on-site and goes back into circulation, keeping single-use cups out of the waste stream. Participating locations include The Crown, LoLo Juice, Cool River Coffee House, Mountain View Coffee Bar, Ullr Cafe at the Grand Colorado on Peak 8, and Semplice Café. Returns are accepted at any of the six locations regardless of where the cup was borrowed.
The Colorado Cup was designed in collaboration with local artist Nikki LaRochelle, in addition to a special ‘Breck Cup’ featuring the 10-mile range and a retro nod to Breckenridge’s 1970’s ski heritage. Breckenridge is the first geographic pilot of the Colorado Cup program and was developed in collaboration with SustainableBreck and the Town of Breckenridge.
