The 2026 Community or Destination Event & Animation Grant Program provides financial support to organizers developing events that enhance Breckenridge’s year-round vibrancy, economic impact, community engagement, and tourism.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must be one of the following:

  • 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(6) nonprofit organizations
  • Event producers (priority to local producers or those with local partners)
  • Public schools, service clubs, community groups
  • Neighborhood/resident groups
  • Local businesses proposing public benefit activities

Additional requirements:

  • Events must be located in, or primarily benefit, the Town of Breckenridge
  • ONLY new events and animation qualify
  • SEPA and BEC approval required (if applicable)
  • Not alcohol focused

2026 APPLICATION PROCESS

The Town will begin receiving applications in July and will review them on a rolling basis. A complete application must be submitted using the Grant Application Form (Link to Form). For Tier 1, a review committee will review all applications and make recommendations to the Town Manager's Office for grant awards. Town Council must review and approve Tier 2 & Tier 3 awards.

EVALUATION CRITERIA 

Applications will be scored using: 

  • Economic & tourism benefit 
  • Community impact and accessibility 
  • Feasibility of timeline, staffing, and budget 
  • Financial leverage (matching funds, partnerships, volunteers) 
  • Welcoming/inclusivity efforts 
  • Environmental sustainability 

Additional factors: community cohesion, quality of life, equity, cultural vibrancy. 

FUNDING TIERS

Tier 1 – Up to $10,000

  • Attendance: 100–500
  • One day event, small recurring series or general animation
  • Requires: Budget, project plan, community/economic benefit statement
  • Apply at least 2 months prior to event start (some exceptions may apply)
  • Priority given to local producers or those with local partners

Tier 2 – Up to $50,000

  • Attendance: 501–1,500
  • Single day, multi-day or non-consecutive days
  • Requires: Budget, project plan, community/economic benefit statement, capacity evidence
  • Apply at least 4 months prior to event start  (some exceptions may apply)

Tier 3 – $50,000+ (Invitation by Town Manager Only)

  • Large scale or high impact event- single day, multi-day, or multi-year
  • Requires: Formal agreement, performance measures, annual reporting
  • Apply at least 4 months prior to event start (some exceptions may apply)

Town funds cannot be used for:
Alcohol, tobacco, or cannabis
Personal property for individuals
Salaries not directly tied to event delivery
Political, religious, or private events
More than 50% of a Tier 2 or 3 event’s total cost 

POST-EVENT REPORTING REQUIREMENTS 
All funded applicants must provide: 
Summary of activities and attendance 
Description of community outcomes 
Photos or documentation 
Final overall budget + detailed use of Town funds   
Additional requirements for Tier 3 events

Grant funding is at the full discretion of the Town. Limited funds are available. The Town reserves the right to approve or deny all applications and funding requests, and the extension of this program is not guaranteed. Program may be changed at any time.
