Candidate Nomination Petitions

All candidates who are interested in running for Town Council must submit a Candidate Nomination Petition that is signed by at least 10 Breckenridge Town Electors to have their name appear on the April 7, 2026, ballot.

Candidate petition packets for the 2026 election will be available for pick-up at Breckenridge Town Hall beginning January 6, 2026. 

Completed petitions are due January 26, 2026.

Town Hall is open 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and Friday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. 

CANDIDATE NOMINATION PETITIONS CAN NO LONGER BE PICKED UP NOR SUBMITTED AS THE JANUARY 26, 2026 STATUTORY DEADLINE HAS PASSED

Candidates whose Nomination Petitions were found insufficient have until Monday February 2, 2026 to cure their petition. Candidates who need to cure their petitions must pick up a blank "Cure Petition" from the Town Clerk and the file the amendments with the Town Clerk by 5:00 p.m. Monday, February 2, 2026. Candidates must follow the same circulation requirements as their Nomination Petition. 

Nomination Petitions submitted with less than 10 signatures cannot be cured. The candidate must file a new Nomination Petition. 

Write - In Candidates

Write-In Candidates are individuals whose name will not appear on the April 7, 2026 ballot but seeks election by encouraging voters to manually write their name on the ballot on the blank line provided. Those interested in becoming a write-in candidate must complete and file a "Write-In Candidate Affidavit of Intent" with the Town Clerk. The Affidavit of Intent is available for pick up in the Office of the Town Clerk. 

Blank lines on the ballot will only be provided if a Write - In Candidate Affidavit of Intent is filed with the Town Clerk by the statutory deadline. 

Affidavits of Intent must be filed by Monday, February 2, 2026 by 5:00 p.m. with the Town Clerk. 

Write - In Candidates must still follow the reporting requirements of the Fair Campaign Practices Act. 

Requests and Submissions for Write-In Candidate Affidavits will no longer be accepted as the February 2, 2026, Statutory Deadline has Passed. 

Withdrawing From Candidacy 

Candidates wishing to withdraw from the April 7, 2026, ballot must submit a Certificate of Candidate Withdrawal no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, February 2, 2026. Certificates must be completed with wet ink and may be picked up from the Town Clerk.

Candidate Information Forum - March 11, 2026

The Candidate Information Forum is a chance for community members to hear directly from the candidates running for Town Council. During the forum, candidates will share their thoughts on current town issues and discuss their goals and priorities if elected. This free, public event is open to everyone and is a great opportunity to get to know the candidates seeking the three open seats on Breckenridge Town Council and learn more about where they stand on topics important to the community.

The Candidate Information Forum will take place from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at Colorado Mountain College Breckenridge in the Auditorium, located at 107 Denison Placer Road, Breckenridge, CO 80424. 

RSVP is encouraged but it is not required. All are welcome to attend.

Hot Topics Discussion - Canceled

The “Hot Topics” discussion with Town Staff has been canceled. Candidates interested in learning more about current Town issues are encouraged to schedule meetings directly with Town Management or individual Department Directors.

  • Meet with Town Management: Please email Peyton Rogers at peytonr@townofbreckenridge.com to schedule a meeting.
  • Meet with Department Directors: Please contact Department Directors individually. Contact information is available in the Staff Directory
  • Potential candidates are encouraged to attend Town Council meetings to become familiar with current topics and responsibilities.
