The Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program is designed to significantly reduce the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs and the use of violent behavior by young people. The primary objective of the 5th grade program is directed at developing the capacities needed to enable students to take charge of their lives. The DARE program gives students the tools and confidence to make healthy choices in the decision-making process regarding substance abuse. The Breckenridge DARE program follows the community oriented policing philosophy as it promotes positive relationships between police officers and community youth.
